There are two modes, marathon and relax. Despite their names, marathon mode seems to be slightly easier. Both modes are played in the same way, but marathon mode runs longer, and relax mode is harder to start because there are so many jewels. The goal of the game is to create a vertical line of 3 gems, to make them disappear. Although, if a column of gems is almost to the top of the playing field, you cannot add another one, which is why relax mode is more difficult to start.
Relax mode starts with room for only one gem to be added to each column, so you have to find one that already has two of the game gem at the bottom of that row. Once you have found a few matches, it gets easier to move gems around and start scoring more points for combinations. Game play ends when you run out of gems that match.
Marathon mode starts out with a random number of gems that is much more manageable and game play is the same. Although, once you get down to only have a few gems left, more fall down, extending the game. Game play ends when you stop playing.
